Skate Launches This September — F2P, Open-World, and Built to Evolve

After years of waiting and multiple playtests, EA and Full Circle have finally confirmed the release date for Skate., the long-awaited revival of the iconic skateboarding franchise. Let’s break down everything you need to know.
Release Date Confirmed
Following July’s successful playtests, EA announced that Skate. will enter Early Access on September 16, 2025, across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
The reveal came with a fresh trailer showcasing San Vansterdam, the new open-world city designed as a skater’s paradise. Every street, rail, and rooftop is built for creativity, with endless opportunities to land tricks.
The Return of a Classic
Originally launched in 2007, the Skate series quickly built a cult following thanks to its physics-driven gameplay and freedom to create unique lines. After Skate 3 in 2010, the series went dark for over 15 years—until now.
In 2021, EA formed Full Circle, a new studio dedicated to bringing the franchise back. First teased as Skate 4, the project was officially rebranded as Skate. in 2022. Now, it’s coming back as a free-to-play live service title, designed to grow with its community over time.
What to Expect in Skate.
A new city – San Vansterdam: A reborn skater’s haven, once controlled by M-Corp but now free for players to reclaim.
F2P & Online focus: Built as a fully connected open world, powered by EA’s Frostbite engine.
Revamped gameplay: The iconic Flick-It System returns with improvements, plus a Skatepedia to guide new players.
Community-driven development: Head of Creative Jeff Seamster confirmed that Skate. will evolve continuously with updates shaped by player feedback.
The Catch – No Offline Mode
While fans are excited, not everyone is on board with EA’s decision to launch Skate. as online-only. The lack of an offline mode has sparked debate, especially after Ubisoft’s The Crew was rendered unplayable when servers shut down in 2024.
How this model will play out remains to be seen—but one thing’s certain: Skate. is finally back.
Final Thoughts
After more than a decade away, EA’s skateboarding franchise is set to make its long-awaited return on September 16, 2025. With its F2P model, evolving world, and heavy community focus, Skate. could either redefine the series—or risk grinding to a halt if the live service model doesn’t land.
What do you think? Are you hyped for Skate.’s comeback, or worried about the always-online requirement?
